From the owner... "My parents bought this cottage in 1943 in Sitka, and it is where I grew up. In 2007 I completed a full renovation of the house, which has a cozy charm and is a short walk from the ocean and downtown Sitka. I live in the lower 48 now and love being able to share it with visitors from near and far."

Perfect Location - Enjoyed our Stay!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Biorka Cottage in Sitka. The location is perfect for doing anything downtown including Sheldon Jackson Museum and Sitka National Historic Park. It is possible to walk to most Sitka restaurants and shopping. A car is nice if you want to do some hikes outside of downtown. The house is comfortable and well stocked, also immaculate. The beds are especially comfy and there is plenty of room for 6 guests. The upstairs half bath is a bonus. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a the living room is great for relaxing. I can’t imagine a better place to stay in Sitka and would certainly recommend Biorka Cottage to anyone visiting.
Nice little cottage – walking distance to town
We stayed for just over a week at the end of October, early November. We were in Sitka working with colleagues at UAS and the Sitka Sound Science Center. It was a perfect arrangement for our group as it offered separate bedrooms with a number of sleeping options (2 beds in 2 of the bedrooms and one full size bed in the downstairs bedroom). The beds were comfortable. There was room for us to spread out a little, but enjoy some nice communal time sharing dinners. Everything was very clean and well maintained and the kitchen was well appointed – we had everything we needed to cook full meals. The cottage has been renovated to keep its original 1940s charm, but with modern conveniences and simple décor. Another reviewer noted that there is a fair bit of road noise, especially upstairs, and we found the same. It really wasn’t too bad, but sensitive sleepers might want to be aware and perhaps bring earplugs. The upside is that it was an easy walk to Sheldon Jackson campus, the Sitka Sound Science Center, the Sitka National Historic Park/Totem Park, Baranof Island Brewing, the Raptor Center, and downtown. There is a small market just down the street. The house instructions were very clear and the wireless signal strong. There is an interesting selection of books available, many with a Sitka focus - that is a nice touch. We would definitely return.
Nice clean bright cottage - walking distance to downtown
We enjoyed our recent stay here in late August, spending a couple of days hiking around Sitka after a productive salmon/halibut fishing adventure. The cottage was nicely bright and clean inside, which was a good contrast to the grey, misty, rainy days of Sitka in August! We were able to easily walk downtown for dinners and shopping - about half a mile easy walk. We had four of us staying, two upstairs and two downstairs. The cottage does have just the one bath/shower, but that wasn't a problem at all. There's a half bath upstairs. The only challenge of the cottage is that it's a little close to a fairly busy road, which for Sitka has a bit of traffic, even during the night. If sleeping with the windows open, it could be a little loud upstairs, but closing the windows kept most of that sound nicely tucked away. Nothing bad... but for sensitive sleepers, something to consider. The management company there in Sitka was very responsive and helpful. The house was in a nice neighborhood, no worries with walking around at night.
Super cute house!
We spent a week at this house for our family vacation this summer. It was the perfect location to walk anywhere we wanted to go (we did not rent a car). The youngest was 18 months and great grandma was the oldest. Worked for everyone! I hope we make it back to Sitka soon and would definitely want to stay there again!!
Walking distance to everything.
We loved the location; convenient to everything. The cottage was very clean but as in a true cottage - small. The design is efficient and we were very comfortable. We loved our time at The Biorka Cottage!
We stayed at the Biorka Cottage in Sitka over Thanksgiving weekend. What a wonderful place! The cottage is immaculate and comfortable. Three bedrooms gave us plenty of space. The beds are comfortable and the shower has plenty of hot water. We enjoyed cooking there; the kitchen is well-supplied with everything you need to prepare full meals. And we appreciated staying in a house that was well-furnished and not over-decorated! Many thanks! We hope to come back.
Cozy, lots of character, and right in the heart of Sitka!
We loved our stay at Biorka Cottage! We were in town for a wedding and had people staying all over the island. Some were out of town with amazing views and others at the hotels. We liked our place the best because it was close to town and super cozy. Was just what we'd hoped for. And the pictures actually don't do this place justice! Would definitely stay here again.
Quaint, centrally located, comfortable
Review #22211143 “Biorka Cottage Sitka Alaska” Quaint, centrally located, comfortable ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We loved the cottage. It was very clean and the kitchen is well equipped for cooking. It was perfect for myself, my husband, our 5 month old daughter, and grandma. We enjoyed the open kitchen living room and cooked some amazing meals in the kitchen. Management graciously provided coffee and filters and the giant chest freezer is a great amenity for folks that are hunting or fishing. The only thing that would have improved or stay would be the addition of blackout curtains. Eye covers were provided, but we brought our 5 month old daughter and she would have benefited from darkness :) We would stay here again without hesitation if we return to Sitka.
